Revision of Redondasuchus (archosauria: Aetosauria) from the Upper Triassic Redonda Formation, New Mexico, with Description of a New Species

چکیده
We describe a new species of aetosaur, Redondasuchus rineharti, based on isolated scutes and an incomplete femur from a single locality in the Upper Triassic Redonda Formation of east-central New Mexico. R. rineharti is distinguished from R. reseri, the only other species of Redondasuchus, by its scute morphology, specifically by its large size, presence of a boss at the point of flexure and mediolaterally-oriented row of pits immediately posterior to the anterior bar. Various workers have proposed that Redondasuchus should be synonymized with Typothorax coccinarum, but we review their arguments and find no justification for this synonymy.

A New Tetrapod Ichogenus from the Upper Triassic of New Mexico, with Notes on the Ichnotaxonomy of Rhynchosauroides
The Redonda Formation (Upper Triassic: late Norian/Rhaetian: Apachean) of the Chinle Group of east-central New Mexico yields a significant tetrapod ichnofauna. Some specimens previously referred to Rhynchosauroides represent a new ichnogenus named Apachepus cottonorum igen. et isp. nov. characterized by having a pedal print that is elongate with long, narrow digits, with digit V being very shor...
متن کاملMandibles of Juvenile Phytosaurs (archosauria: Crurotarsi) from the Upper Triassic Chinle Group of Texas and New Mexico, Usa
Here we describe five specimens of juvenile phytosaurs from several localities in the Upper Triassic Chinle Group of Texas and New Mexico. These include three specimens from localities in the Tecovas Formation (Texas) of Adamanian age and one each from the Revueltian-age Bull Canyon Formation and Apachean-age Travesser Formation of New Mexico. Although all of the specimens are incompletely pres...
متن کاملA Revision of the Upper Triassic Ornithischian Dinosaur Revueltosaurus, with a Description of a New Species
Ornithischian dinosaur body fossils are extremely rare in Triassic rocks worldwide, and to date the majority of such fossils consist of isolated teeth. Revueltosaurus is the most common Upper Triassic ornithischian dinosaur and is known from Chinle Group strata in New Mexico and Arizona. Historically, all large (>1 cm tall) and many small ornithischian dinosaur teeth from the Chinle have been r...

Aetosauria is a clade of heavily armored, quadrupedal omnivorous to herbivorous archosaurs known from the Late Triassic across what was the supercontinent of Pangea. Their abundance in many deposits relative to the paucity of other Triassic herbivores indicates that they were key components of Late Triassic ecosystems. However, their evolutionary relationships remain contentious due, in large p...
متن کاملRevised phylogenetic analysis of the Aetosauria (Archosauria: Pseudosuchia); assessing the effects of incongruent morphological character sets.
Aetosauria is an early-diverging clade of pseudosuchians (crocodile-line archosaurs) that had a global distribution and high species diversity as a key component of various Late Triassic terrestrial faunas. It is one of only two Late Triassic clades of large herbivorous archosaurs, and thus served a critical ecological role. Nonetheless, aetosaur phylogenetic relationships are still poorly unde...
